Stubex.com is one of the first online used textbook exchanges where students
can buy and sell books directly from each other. Very seldomly do we receive
complaints from users who bought a book and paid the seller, but never received
the book which they ordered.
Stubex suggests that you take the following measures to avoid paying for books
and not receiving them:
- Confirm the edition of the book. Sometimes a book seems very attractively
priced, but it could in fact be an older edition.
- Try to pay the seller and receive the books in person. Op Stubex
you can search for books in your own state and even your own school, so that
you can meet with the seller in person. Make sure that you note down the seller's
phone number, so you can easily find each other on campus.
- Use common sense: if a book is priced way too cheap, it could in
fact be in bad condition, or be an older edition. See bullet 1.
- Only use the following payment methods: cash in hand (when meeting
the seller in person. Never send cash via mail.), check and bank
transfer.
- Save all e-mail correspondence with the seller. The headers of e-mails
contain the IP-address of the seller.
- Make clear who pays for shipping (USPS). Usually, the buyer pays for shipping.
If a seller doesn't follow his end of the deal, you can go to the police as a last resort.
