Selling Safely

Stubex.com is one of the first online used textbook exchanges where students can buy and sell books directly from each other. Very seldomly do we receive complaints from users who sold a book and sent it to the buyer, but never received the money.

Stubex suggests that you take the following measures to avoid problems:

  1. Be accurate when you list your books. Pay close attention to the ISBN and edition.
  2. Try to deliver the books and receive payment in person.
  3. Only use the following payment methods: cash in hand (when meeting the buyer in person. Never ask for cash via mail.), check and bank transfer.
  4. Save all e-mail correspondence with the buyer. The headers of e-mails contain the IP-address of the buyer.
  5. Make clear who pays for shipping. Usually, the seller will calculate shipping costs, e-mail the total amount due to the buyer, and send the books. If the total amount is over $100, we suggest that you use registered mail.

If a buyer doesn't follow his end of the deal, you can go to the police as a last resort.
